Celebrating Our Grand Opening: The Rock Shop is Officially Open!

On August 28, after months of hard work and dedication from our members, the Tehachapi Valley Gem & Mineral Society finally opened the doors to our new home: The Rock Shop. It was a day we will not soon forget, and we want to thank everyone who helped make it such a success.

We were thrilled to see such a large crowd turn out to celebrate this milestone with us. Seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new neighbors reminded us why this club is so special to the Tehachapi community.

The festivities officially began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Clare Scotti, the Executive Director of the Chamber, for her support and for helping us mark this historic moment.

We were also deeply honored to receive formal Certificates of Recognition from local leaders, including Assemblyman Stan Ellis (32nd District), Kern County Supervisor Chris Parlier (2nd District), and Clare Scotti herself. This official recognition underscores the importance of our mission—especially as this is the first dedicated rock shop of its kind in the Tehachapi area since the 1980s.

While people explored our new space, we enjoyed plenty of refreshments together. We had a variety of cookies and treats for everyone to enjoy, but the highlight was definitely our delicious Grand Opening German Chocolate Cake.

There was plenty of excitement throughout the day thanks to our various activities. We held several raffles with numerous prizes up for grabs, and our Spin Wheel was a major hit—winners walked away with various rocks and minerals. We also set up a rock painting area, which quickly became a favorite among the kids in attendance. It was wonderful to see the younger generation engaging with geology right from day one; it’s exactly the kind of energy we hope to foster through our Pebble Pups youth program.

For the adults, many used the opportunity to tour the retail area of our shop as well as our state-of-the-art lapidary and silversmithing workshop. The Rock Shop is intended to be a community hub—a place where local artisans can use our consignment space to showcase their work and where members can gather to swap techniques and build friendships.

If you weren't able to make it to the grand opening, don't worry! The Rock Shop is now open at 20406 Brian Way, Ste. 4A. Whether you are a seasoned rockhound, a jewelry maker, or just curious about earth sciences, we invite you to stop by. Click the button below for map and hours.

You can also join us for our monthly meetings, held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Tehachapi Senior Center. These meetings are free and open to the public. Click the button below for more information.

Thank you again to everyone who came out to support TVGMS. We look forward to seeing you at The Rock Shop soon!
