Hello Members,

This coming Thursday at 6 PM at the Senior Center is the Annual Meeting of the TVGMS. It is going to be a busy evening. We will be electing officers for 2027. We will be voting on the new bylaws that most of you received in an email as an attachment about two weeks ago. The new bylaws will bring our society into a proper place with all the rules and regulations of a 501(c)(3) charity corporation. 

October is the meeting where we officially begin collecting the yearly membership fees. Many of you have paid memberships already after July and do not need to pay again until October of 2027. However, we will be asking current members to fill out a "Membership Renewal Form" along with your payment. We want to keep up to date with email addresses and emergency contact information so that we have accurate records to use next year to keep you well informed about all the exciting things going on. 

Speaking of exciting events. We had a fantastic and successful time at the Apple Festival. The spin wheel was turning all day with a line of happy spinners waiting for their turn. Thanks to all who helped.

We have two events still this month and can use help giving out candy to kids and working at our booth. The first is Trunk or Treat at Meadowbrook Park, on October 24, 4-7 PM. You can sign up to help at the Rock Shop or at the meeting. The other event is on Halloween, October 31, Treat Trail from 5-8 PM at the Railroad Park. Both event should be fun and costumes are encouraged with pirates and old miners leading the list. But any costume should make the booth a hoot. More about these events will be discussed at the meeting Thursday evening. 

Come out to the meeting and help make the next year even better than the spectacular year we are having in 2026.

The Apple Festival is coming this weekend October 10th, 10 AM - 6 PM and the Tehachapi Valley Gem and Mineral Society has a booth again with the Spin Wheel. It is always a great event and the spin wheel is fun for kids and adults alike.

We can use a few volunteers to help with the Spin Wheel to give the regular volunteers a break.

Come by the booth enjoy a chat with friends. I am told that the weather is going to cool off a bit. That will make for a great Apple Festival and beginning of Fall.

This week we’ll be doing a fun project with resin. Using a small metal tray we’ll be creating a design with glass shards and/or seed beads. Adding resin to the design creates a durable and interesting finish. Use your imagination and creativity - try to map out an idea prior to the class so you can jump right into creating. The final project can be used as a pendant or glue on a magnet for a fun refrigerator magnet. Supplies and tools are provided (you will not need your tools) but bring a pair of tweezers if possible so you don’t have to share. The beads are tiny so bring magnifying glasses if you have them.

Meeting reminder: Thursday (9/24) at 6pm. Be sure to join us this Thursday- we have a lot to talk about!

-The Rock Shop had its Grand Opening and is doing great. We have new hours for both the Rock Shop and the lapidary workshop. October will be a busy month of creative Halloween jewelry classes - save Wednesdays and Sundays.

-October is our election meeting so we will begin taking nominations this month.

-The ByLaw committee has completed their task and you’ll receive the new ByLaws by email after this meeting and we will vote on them in October.

-The Pebble Pups will be meeting so bring your future rock hounds.

-We’ll have a short geology video and a jar auction after the meeting so bring some cash for some fun items. (Bring any rock related donations for the auction)

Several requests have been made for this class! This week Carmen will be teaching the braided wire and bead bracelet. We’ll also learn a loop and hook clasp to complete the bracelet. You’ll have the choice of wire and beads. Supplies and tools are provided, bring your tools if you have them.

This Wednesday's Members Class

If you’re interested in wire wrapping techniques then this week’s class is for you! We’ll be learning two styles of wire wrapping an odd-shaped object. Both are quick and easy and a great skill to incorporate into your repertoire.

As usual - supplies and instruction will be provided. If you have tools, bring them.

This is just a little early but We wanted to give you time.

Trunk or Treat is coming up on October 24 at Meadowbrook Park from 4-7PM.

The club will have a booth. This is a great event where participants walk from booth to booth and get a treat or do an activity. The kids will have a fun safe time.

We need donations for the event in the form of small toys and candy. We will have information about the club to give out as well.

On October 31 The Chamber of Commerce is putting on Treat Trail. As well as being at the stores downtown it will be at Railroad Park. That's where our booth will be. Candy and small toys to give out as people come by our booth would be appreciated. The time for Treat Trail is 5-8PM. Keep October 31 and the Treat Trail on your calendar.

Volunteers for both events would be appreciated. Should be great fun for those that participate.

We can use donations for Halloween decorations for the shop too. Lt's make our first holiday at the shop special.

We are almost there! It’s on Friday!!

Just three days till the official Grand Opening of the TVGMS Rock Shop and Workshop.

Friday Evening 5:30 PM

We could use the assistance of a few individuals to help before the Grand Opening to set up two canopies and several tables outside the shop. A few people are needed to help tear down after the big gala event is over at about 7 pm. If you can help just come to the shop a little early around 4-4:30 PM on Friday, August 28.

Also, it would be wonderful if members wore their badges or club tee shirts to the Grand Opening.

The raffle will be held at approximately 6:30 in the evening on Friday. You don’t have to buy a ticket. Every guest will be given a ticket. Since the Rock Shop and Workshop benefits from donations they are always accepted with great appreciation.

While I am making announcements. Remember our regular monthly meeting is on Thursday, August 27, 6 PM at the Senior Center. Looking forward to seeing you all at events this week. It is going to be great fun.

Its Almost Here!

The Grand Opening of the TVGMS Rock Shop and Workshop

We are actually open now but the official Grand Opening with the ribbon cutting and the Chamber of Commerce is coming soon on August 28, at 5:30 PM. That is just a week from tomorrow.

We need a few volunteers to help with making the event its very best.

If you can swing by the shop and pick up a few Grand Opening flyers to distribute around town on bulletin boards in stores that would be greatly appreciated.

If you can visit stores and especially restaurants and ask for donations such as meal vouchers to go into the Grand Opening Raffle that too would help a lot.

Hoping you can all come to the Big Event its going to be a significant milestone for the TVGMS!

What a great show weekend we had! Are you ready for a fun class this week?

Carmen will be teaching the hammered earring class. You can be creative in making interesting shapes and then hammering them for texture and strength.

If you have tools bring them, otherwise we have several sets.

500 E. F St. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16. See you there!

Calling all rockhounds! Don’t miss the 19th annual Gem and Mineral Society Show, where you’ll discover crystals, natural gemstones, geodes, rock supplies, handmade jewelry and even fossils! Vendors will be showing and selling beautiful showcase minerals, fossils, polished rocks, beads and handcrafted jewelry.

Bring the kids; they love the popular spinning wheel with many unique prizes, such as fossilized shark teeth and ammonites, beautiful minerals and polished rocks.

Are you ready to do some more wire weaving?? 

This Wednesday (8/5/26) we’ll practice a simple way make a Sun/Star using a round bead and a wire weaving technique.
