Mission
MISSION STATEMENT
The TVGMS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote the study of earth sciences with emphasis on collection or rocks, minerals, fossils, and gems. Popular interest in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, and related subjects. We sponsor lectures, classes, demonstrations, field trips and school visits to further education and interest both within TVGMS and the community at large. Our annual gem show exhibits rock, mineral, fossil, Jewelry and lapidary arts collections in order to share our hobby with the public.
Monthly Meetings Open To The Public
Please join us the fourth Thursday of every month at the Tehachapi Senior Center.
Meetings are free and open to the public. Meetings start at 6:00 PM.
The location is 500 East "F" St. Tehachapi, Ca. 93561.

Tehachapi Jewelry Gem & Mineral Show
This annual show brings together over 20 vendors selling a variety of objects from fossils and rare minerals to beads and handmade jewelry. It’s a feast for the curiosity of kids and adults. TVGMS showcases work from our lapidary workshop – selling slabs of gorgeous rock we’ve found. Some slabs are polished and ready to display while others are ready for jewelers to cut and set into handmade works of art. Don’t miss this event!
Apple Festival
Many visitors from neighboring communities attend the Apple Festival to welcome Fall and purchase handmade gifts. TVGMS’s booth is always a popular attraction with our famous Spinning Wheel. For $1 or $5 you can win from a huge variety of interesting rocks, minerals, and fossils. It’s fun for kids and adults alike.
Education
This incredible 501c3 organization is dedicated to promoting the appreciation of geology, mineralogy, and the earth sciences within our community. We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the education of the members and the community by:
• Providing teaching aids and presentations to area schools and offering scholarships to graduating students
• Organizing field trips to local and overnight locations to search for interesting geology as well as trips to various museums and mines
• Maintaining a workshop with machinery to help members cut and polish their finds.
• Hosting classes and workshops in jewelry making
• Offering presentations by knowledgeable people at many of our meetings
• Organizing and hosting a very well attended annual show and sale for vendors to sell their wares and locals to shop and learn

The Tehachapi Gem & Mineral Society is a member of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. Our affiliations with these organizations provide valuable resources to both the Tehachapi Gem & Mineral Society and our membership.
