TVGMS Scholarship

The Tehachical Valley Gem & Mineral Society (TVGMS) is dedicated to fostering a passion for geology, mineralogy, and the natural sciences. To support the educational journeys of local students, we award annual scholarships of $500 to deserving students pursuing studies in Earth Sciences or related fields. Whether you are heading to a university, a community college, or a vocational technical institute, we want to help fuel your curiosity about our planet.

Eligibility & Requirements

To be considered for this award, applicants must submit a complete application package including the following:


  • Academic Standing: A high school transcript demonstrating a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.


  • Personal Essay: A written statement (minimum of 300 words) that introduces yourself to the committee. Please include:


  • A brief self-description.
  • Your personal interests and hobbies.
  • Your intended field of study in college, vocational school, or higher education.


  • Letter of Recommendation: A formal letter of recommendation (preferably from a science or vocational teacher).


  • Sponsorship: Your application must be supported by a sponsor (this can be a teacher, a member of the TVGMS, or a recognized community leader). Please include their name and position on the form.


  • Student Activity Log: A chronological list of your extracurricular activities, honors, awards, and employment history, subdivided by year.


How to Apply (Submission Procedures)

  1. Prepare Your Documents: Gather your transcript, essay, recommendation letter, and activity list.

  2. Complete the Form: Download and fill out the official TVGMS Scholarship Application.

  3. Submit to School: All completed application materials must be turned in physically to your School Counseling Office.

  4. Notification: Winners will be notified via the school’s scholarship award ceremony or directly by the TVGMS Committee.


Important Note on Fund Disbursement

Please note that the $500 award is disbursed upon proof of enrollment. To receive the funds, the successful applicant must complete their first term at an accredited college, technical school, or institute of higher education and provide a transcript or official documentation verifying successful completion of said term. A check will be mailed to the address provided on the application, or to an address requested by the recipient, at the start of your second term.
